As many of you who are in this field know, good equipment is both hard to find and usually expensive when you do happen to find a product worth using. After the purchase of our 3 Sony camcorders we we’re looking for good I/R extenders to help out the weak ones that Sony uses in these units. I contacted Paul Bradford over at GHI and spoke to him about the I/R extenders that he was building for GHI. I purchased one of his units and used it on a few investigations and even though he builds a quality product, his light, like many, produce a “tunnel vision” effect that I find annoying.
Well after some trial and error SVP is proud to announce that we are now building our own, high power, quality I/R extenders for night vision camcorders. We use (4) 8mm, triple chip, 60degree, 200mW Infrared IR LED in each unit which produces superb zero lux illumination without that annoying “tunnel vision” effect. We use these on all our camcorders and even use solo units to assist our DVR cameras record longer distances. Each unit gets an average operating time of 8 hours off of 1 9volt battery which is conveniently located on that back side of each unit so quick battery replacement during an investigation is a snap. Also, each unit comes mounted on a hot shoe connector for easy mounting to most camcorders or extention arms.
